Magnolia Cafe | Push Ups

Friday, March 13th

Due to being extreme tire / laziness last night, I skipped dinner, which probably wasn’t the most intelligent idea because it only heightened my exhaustion and made it difficult to sleep. I felt a lot more free being done with school for the week, so I skipped my 11 am class today because there was no new material and no quiz and went to eat instead.

So for breakfast we went to Magnolia Café, an Austin classic. I had never been, and we’ve been trying to go for a couple weeks but the line is always too long, so I’m pretty glad I finally had the chance to try it.

They gave free coffee outside (the only thing better than coffee is when it’s free) so we treated ourselves to that, and once inside, he ordered two very large breakfast tacos and I the House Special omelet which came with mushrooms, potatoes, turkey, and some veggies as well as black beans and an English muffin. I ate almost half of the meal before getting very full. It was very a satisfying breakfast. Food isn’t amazing or anything but it’s pretty good.

Afterwards, we went to the South by Southwest Gaming Expo because my boyfriend is a player and a fan of Street Fighter and there is a three day competition going on this weekend that he wanted to watch. I’m not really into games and whatnot but I like being supportive and it was actually really fun for me; I didn’t know I could enjoy it but I did.

While we were there, some people from the army (?) had a booth set up and were holding a push-up competition for a prize: really expensive headphone sets for the top male and female.

Naturally, we had to try.

At the time the top number of pushups for females was 44 and I was pretty confident I could beat that. You have to do as many as you can in 2 minutes without putting your knees down. I thought I could do more than I actually did, but I managed to crank out 72 and my boyfriend did 81.

All of the guys there were really impressed with me and confident that I would be the winner of the day, saying I should come back later to redeem my prize. It was a huge confidence booster for me especially because I put a lot of effort into keeping my strength on a daily basis and it felt good to be recognized. My boyfriend was also pretty surprised- said he doesn’t give me enough credit.

We went back later to check the score and all the guys were still really impressed with me and it made my boyfriend pretty happy because of the possibility to win a headset for him. He even posted a photo about it:

I had to leave early from the convention to catch my ride to Katy, and I ended up winning so he had to take a photo with them for me and received the prize and whatnot.

The car ride home was pretty long due to traffic and I was really sleepy at this point because I went to sleep at around 4 a.m. last night and I hadn’t eaten since around 11. I didn’t arrive in Katy until almost 8 pm. I was really happy to see my family and I think tonight I'm just going to chill and maybe watch a movie with them.
