So Much Studying | Crosstown Magic

Saturday, February 28th

This week has been hell. Literally. Two tests Monday, one Wednesday, and what felt like a million homework assignments and club meetings. I spent most of my week doing school work and catching up on some things, and I finally managed to make it to the gym for most of the week, which I'm proud of.

It's been really tiring, though. I want to train for the Longhorn Run, a 10K that takes place in April, but because of my ankles, I haven't been able to start training. This week, though, I took it slow, and have been running around 30 minutes a day at a slower pace than I'm used to. I think I'll start alternating between long runs and short, quicker runs, so that I can get my pace up while also building my endurance. Hopefully I'll be ready by April 11th.

This morning, I ran 3 miles in 28:33. I used to be able to do it in around 25 minutes so I'm going to work back towards that, and then work on running longer distance. After my run I worked out my muscles a bit then came home, did some chores (laundry, cleaning, shower, etc) and made some lunch. I kind of have a headache from not eating today until now (It's 2:10 PM) but I think I'll be okay after this cup of coffee.

Lately, I have been using "Yelp" religiously to find all of the best Austin-y places to eat. I decided to start cooking at home more and eating out only a couple times a week, but eating out at places I haven't tried before or are really worth spending money on. So rather than say, eating Subway for lunch on a busy day, I'll pack my PBJ the night before so I can save that money for when I do go out.

It's been pretty exciting for me to try these places because I feel like I'm finally really getting a taste (ha, punny) of Austin.

Yesterday after class, I visited 3 places (yikes) but I didn't eat out all week so I think it was a good reward. On Yelp, if you check in at three places in a day you receive a badge called "Crosstown Magic," hence the title. For brunch yesterday, two of my friends and I went to a small place called épicerie which is right outside a small Austin neighborhood and inside what I think used to be a home.

The atmosphere inside is really cute and adorable, and they sell cheese and beignets (of course we ordered some) and coffee, as well as lunch food. I ordered their Shaved Beef sandwich, which came with some really good onion rings. I wasn't able to finish it because it was pretty filling. My friends ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup and I must say that is the best grilled cheese I have tried in my lifetime. The beignets were so warm and delicious and also the best I've had in my life, but I haven't tried many.

Afterwards we really have been meaning to try this new boba / tapioca place called Tea Haus, which has the cutest interior ever. They have an interesting menu but generally pretty good boba tea, according to my friend. I tried their sea salt coffee which was very smooth-tasting. I did like it but it wasn't anything I'm crazy over. If I go again, I'll order their boba.

In the evening, my boyfriend was hungry so we went to Hoover's, which is some really good soul food. I loved their cinnamon bread, and I'd never been there so it was a good experience. I was really tired because I didn't sleep much Thursday night so I fell asleep after working on homework for a bit.

No plans for the rest of today and tomorrow's plans are tentative so maybe I'll get more rest this weekend than I'm used to.
