Good Mornings | Drinking Water

Mornings are something that I value greatly; I enjoy taking time out of my day to check my email and eat a nice breakfast and spend time getting ready. It makes the rest of the day go smoother when my morning isn't stressful or rushed.

Recently, I have been spending my mornings sleeping in and rushing to get to class, if I even make it. I have been neglecting my mornings for a couple weeks now and I can feel the difference in my mood and even in the way that I look.

One thing I find extremely important is to drink a full glass of water each morning. This boost in your metabolism really wakes you up and gives you energy, also reducing likelihood of overeating during breakfast.

I am also a fan of morning workouts, because your body is at its lowest sugar level in the morning, so burning fat occurs more quickly. It's also my favorite way to start the day because I feel refreshed the rest of the day, not groggy and sleepy.

So this morning I decided that I need to get back into that routine. I have noticed weight gain in the past couple weeks which is inevitably disappointing. So, this morning I started simple and easy to ease myself back into it after being sick and not working out for a couple weeks.

I drank an entire bottle of water after waking, then did some yoga, which was a bit harder than expected, and then I ran one mile. It was slow, around 8:30, but I'm okay with that because I don't want to overwork myself getting back into things.

A month ago, 3 miles in 24 minutes was easy, and it definitely is not now. But my goal is to get back to that level, and start working my core again and doing some HIIT workouts as well.

Because I love coffee, I'm enjoying a latte on campus right now, and I'm going to catch up on some school work that I have procrastinated due to Thanksgiving break and being sick.

Change doesn't just happen; you have to make it.
